03 fin area reinforcement
April 16, 2021
Materials
6lb 1" x 12" x 24" Last-a-foam
Gorilla Glue
Tools
Hand Saw
Sanding Boards
Square
Steps
Make a block for the fin box from 5 pieces of 1" Last-a-foam.
Glue the pieces together using gorilla glue, setting a weight on top until dry.
When dry, sand the edges flat and square. It's important to make the sides of the block as square as possible to make sure it will fit tightly in the board in the next step
Cut out an area in the EPS blank for the Last-a-foam block.
Use Gorilla Glue to glue the Last-a-foam in place, and use masking tape to keep it in place while the glue sets.
Notes
Last-A-Foam is a closed cell flame retardant polyurethane foam.
I did not have quite enough last-a-foam, to had to use a piece of EPS foam in the middle (which was going to be removed anyway).
When using the Gorilla Glue, lightly spray one surface with water before attaching it to the other glued surface.
When gluing the Last-a-foam block into the board, I found it easier to tip the board on its side. This let me more easily see both top and bottom sides of the board to insure that the block was correcly aligned.
