Steps

  1. If necessary, extend the fin box screw holes so that they will reach to the deck of the board (use dowels wrapped in carbon fiber, with the carbon fiber securely attached to the fin box).

  2. Rough up Fin box with sandpaper to give some "tooth" for the epoxy to stick.

  3. Router out place for fin box.

  4. Tape off the area around fin box.

  5. Tape off an old fin (Used later to align the fin vertically).

  6. Place masking tape on a strip of core material to wrap around fin box (masking tape prevents core breaking). Heating the core material can help maintaing the shape.

  7. Cut 2 pieces of carbon, one to wrap the fin box, the other outside of core. Cut out the corners to prevent bunching. (Will form an open top box).

  8. Using thickend epoxy, smear generously around the insert area. Place the first carbon for insert on top, insert core material pushing down the carbon. Trim excess carbon that sticks up.

  9. Using thickened expoxy in the hole, put 2nd carbon on board, insert the fin box, pushing it down into the slot. Trim excess carbon that sticks up.

  10. Make sure fin is perpedicular with bottom of the board. Measure from the top of the board to each side of the board. Use masking tape to tape from one side of the board, over the fin top to the other side of the board to secure it in place.

  11. Let set up. Remove fin. Remove tape.

  12. Sand fin box level with hull.
