05 shaping the deck

April 24, 2021

Materials

The EPS core with core material attached to the hull from the previous step.

Tools

Masking Tape

Rasp Plane

Sanding Square

Sanding Boards

Steps

  1. On the bottom of board, re-draw the outline of the board. Using a sanding board and sanding square, smooth the board to the outline and square up the sides of the board.

  2. Use tape along the sides of the board to mark the tail and nose profile of the board.

  3. Shape the tail and nose of the board parallel to the bottom of the board.

  4. Create the slope in the deck. Mask out the contours of each section to remove by sanding...you will effectively be removing one v-shape section at a time until you have a cross section that you can then round off by eye.

  5. Create the rail tuck. Mask the area of the rail tuck. Rasp, sand the rail tuck.

Notes

  • Before starting to shape the deck, draw a scale diagram of the deck cross section, and work out where you will remove the subsequent triangle sections.
